Khesh is unique to Birbhum district of West Bengal, India and the khesh fabric involves weaving from discarded saris. Khesh is an effort by the craftsmen to use environmentally friendly methods. Weaving khesh is a procedure where new yarn is used for the warp, while old saris torn lengthwise into thin fabric strips are used for the weft.
Motifs, floral designs, geometric patterns, and traditional symbols of handstitched applique are added over a base khesh fabric.
